Our Founders

Dr. Trevor Miranda O.D.
Dr. Trevor Miranda earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in 1995. Shortly after graduation, he relocated to Vancouver Island, where he has been proudly serving the Cowichan Valley with comprehensive eye care for nearly three decades.
Dr. Miranda is the co-founder of myretina.ca, an initiative focused on increasing access and awareness around retinal disease management. He is also the co-founder and host of the Optometry Unleashed podcast, a platform dedicated to empowering optometrists and sharing insights from across the profession. He is passionate about mentoring the next generation of optometrists and actively supports clinical development across Canada.
In 2015, Dr. Miranda was honoured as Optometrist of the Year by the British Columbia Association of Optometrists, recognizing his dedication to exceptional patient care and professional leadership.
Dr. Miranda is actively involved in his local community through the South Cowichan Rotary Club and youth sports. Outside the clinic, he enjoys playing golf, hockey, and pickleball, coaching soccer, and spending time with his wife Cheryl and their three children.
Dr. Miranda continues to welcome new patients without referral and remains committed to advancing eye care in the Cowichan Valley.

Dr. Jeff Goodhew O.D.
Dr. Goodhew graduated from the University of Waterloo with his Optometry degree in 1993 and became therapeutically licensed in 2000. He is a partner in Abbey Eye Care, a full scope Optometric practice located in Oakville Ontario.
He enjoys being an active part of his profession, having served as the President of the Ontario Association of Optometrists from 2014 through 2016. Dr. Goodhew also served as the co-chair of the National Public Education Committee for the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
Dr. Goodhew enjoys seeing patients of all ages. He has a special interest in myopia control, dry eye disease and glaucoma management. He has also worked as a consultant for some of the world’s largest contact lens companies, including Johnson & Johnson Vision Care and CooperVision. Along with his spouse Dr. Tina Goodhew they founded Canadian Eye Care Business review and online practice management resource for Canadian eye care professionals.

Dr. Richard L. Maharaj O.D., FAAO
Ocular Surface Disease Special Interest, Progressive Myopia Management and Comprehensive Optometry
Dr. Richard Maharaj completed his Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2003, and Fellowship of the American Academy of Optometry in 2012.
Dr. Maharaj is the Canadian Association of Optometrists Section Chair for Ocular Surface Disease, Editorial Board Member for The Journal of Dry Eye and Ocular Surface Disease, Chief Education Officer at MyDryEye.ca and co-founder for the Canadian Dry Eye Summit – a national conference dedicated to educating eye doctors in the area of dry eye disease management.
Dr. Richard Maharaj has a special interest in dry eye disease, glaucoma and disease of the retina. He is a clinical adjunct associate for the University of Waterloo College of Optometry. He is currently a professional affairs consultant for companies like Johnson and Johnson Vision Care, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Allergan, Labtician-Thea, Alcon-Novartis, Bayer Canada and IMED pharmaceuticals.
He is a published respected national speaker in eye education on diseases and diagnostics of cornea, retina.and meibomian gland dysfunction. His primary research is in non-surgical treatments of the eyelid and meibomian glands. In 2018 he was honoured as one of the Top 40 Canadian Optometrists under 40 by Johnson and Johnson Vision Care. He is an active member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, Canadian Association of Optometrists, American Academy of Optometrists and the College of Optometrists of Ontario.
